Established right after World War II in Castions di Strada, in the province of Udine, Corte Tomasin is today in its third generation of entrepreneurs. Found by the grandfather, expanded by the father, today Ellis Tomasin is at the helm. The land is located in the lowland of Friuli, amongst fresh water springs and lush flora and fauna. Since the beginning, the farm's main focus has been grain and poplars. But ten years ago, Ellis, young and innovative, decided to introduce something new and untraditional for the region of Friuli, something to distinguish his farm from the others nearby. Ellis planted the first olive trees. He started with only 300 plants but increased to 2000 in just a few short years. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea and the presence of the fresh water springs created the perfect environment for the health and prosperity of the olive trees. In tribute to the fertile lands, on each bottle of extra virgin olive oil from Corte Tomasin, there is the Latin expression: “aqua vita est olearum oleum salus corpore est”, which means, "the water is as essential for life as olive oil is vital for the health of human body". Today ,the farm produces only high quality extra virgin olive oil from several varietals: Bianchera, Leccino, Pendolino, Grignano, Maurino, Frantoio, Picholen, Carolea, Coratina, Buga e Carbona. The limited production of oil is mainly sold in Friuli to local connoisseurs and restaurants, with some now being exported to the US. There may be expanded exports in the future.Read more
