De Lorenzo Livara DOP Lametia has a medium aroma of fresh cut grass and green tomato. Delicate notes of tomato, almond, and artichoke, followed by a medium bitterness and spiciness. Best used raw on any delicate dishes such as white meat, green salad, white fish and seafood.

Azienda Agricola De Lorenzo
Started originally in 1951 under Giuseppe De Lorenzo, in 1974 Azienda Agricola De Lorenzo & Co. was incorporated. It extends more than 92 hectares in the territory of the Piana di Lamezia Terme, on the west coast of Calabria along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Today the farm is owned and operated by Giuseppe’s grandchildren, who have the ambition to reach the most demanding markets in the world and have focused their energy exclusively on the production of high quality extra virgin olive oil. The farm’s olive trees are located in the area designated by the European Union for the production of Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) "Lametia" extra virgin olive oil. This area is particularly suited for the cultivation of olives for soil and climatic conditions, especially for the cultivar "Carolea", the most typical in Calabria. The harvest begins in October by mechanical means or by hand, and the olives are immediately pressed into the modern mill, in order to preserve the qualities of the original fruit. The extra virgin olive oil obtained is strictly cold pressed and has a very low acidity. The company has obtained numerous recognitions and awards in Italy in the light fruity category D.O.P. olive oil, some of which are: Ercole Olivario, Sirena D’Oro, and L’Extravergine. The facility offers the ability to visit and lodge in a small cozy hotel surrounded by olive trees, with a picturesque old church and Roman-style aqueduct, perfect for spending days in absolute relaxation while enjoying the superb traditional Calabrian cuisine. The company is easily accessible, since it is located only 2 km from a major highway, the railway station and international airport of Lamezia Terme. In order to receive the DOP (or PDO) certification by the European Union, the olive oil must comply with a strict protocol, which delineates the geographical area of production (farming, pressing and packaging) to be in the province of Catanzaro, in the Piana di Lamezia Terme. The type of olives have to be at least 90% Carolea and the soil has to be mostly sandy with a high permeability in order to provide optimum drainage. Additionally, the protocol sets limits in terms of how many olive trees are allowed per hectare of land (400 max for new implant), how much oil a kilogram of olives should yield (200 gr max), the production method to be exclusively done by mechanical means, and a minimum content of polyphenols to be 170 mg/kg.
