Azienda Agricola Bitonti is located in Ferrandina, a small town in Basilicata near the famous city of Matera. Since 1798, the Bitonti family has lived in Ferrandina. Today, eight generations later, the direct descendant, Pietro Bitonti, continues the family tradition of extra virgin olive oil production. The motto “to be guardians of the past and builders of the future” is the driving force behind the company. Bitonti is running a renowned company with organic production methods. Azienda Agricola Bitonti covers over 500 acres of land with 6,000 century-old olive trees, all of which are Majatica di Ferrandina cultivars, a native variety. The Bitonti olive oil is an authentically “Lucanian Product” with a medium fruity aroma, enriched by the herbaceous scents of the local hills on the border between the mountains of the Lucanian Apennines and the Ionian Sea, where the mild climate favors the cultivation of these olive trees. The Bitonti brand is also a symbol of multifunctional agriculture, characterized by organic farming that guarantees the traditional quality of the products as well as cultural tourism that enhances the territorial context. In fact, in 2015, Bitonti created the multimedia museum “In Viaggio in Basilicata,” located in the medieval village of San Mauro Forte in the historic family home of Palazzo Arcieri Bitonti. The museum hosts various cultural events from concerts to art galleries, all focused on telling stories about Basilicata and its social and economic context.
